Step-by-Step of How to Clean a Leather Shoes

Footwear of high quality, are made with the best materials and skilled labor. They are made to last, but to his boot or shoe leather complete many years with a pleasant appearance, you need to invest time in maintenance.

Step-by-Step of How to Clean a Leather Shoes

The cleaning and conservation of its shoes are essential for you to enjoy to the fullest, and for that money that you invested in them higher income. So, I’m going to give you all the conservation tips of your shoes to keep the leather hydrated and increase the life of your shoe.

How do I clean my leather shoes

A cloth or brush to take dust serve perfectly to clean the shoes in the day-to-day, but from time to time when I’m separated a few minutes to a ritual more careful. The time interval between these sections will depend on the frequency and intensity of use.

Some simple care can extend the life of your leather shoes. You can apply these tips even if you like that visual threadbare. The leather will still show signs of use, but with the step-by-step, it recovers its original characteristics.

You will need:

  • Two brushes (one to take the dirt and the other for polishing);
  • A tooth brush is the old (to clear the turns);
  • A moisturizer/cleanser;
  • Cream for leather;
  • Wax polishing.

Oh, I strongly recommend putting something inside the shoe to establish in the time to apply the products. It can be a form of wood, plastic, or even crumpled paper.

Follow the steps in the video above, which are described in detail below, to take care of leather shoes legitimate

1. Dust

In the photo above, the shoe was well dusty.

Before anything else, take away the shoelaces and then you go on a brush or damp cloth to remove excess dirt.

Use the tooth brush to better reach the holes of the brogue (which is brogue?) and the turns:

2. Hydrate the leather

Notice how in the photo above, the shoe gained a bit of brightness only to be rubbed when I took the dust. This happened because the heat activated wax has accumulated and the oils present in the leather.

The next step is to moisturize the leather. Your shoe catches a lot of sun, dust, and going to drying up. The leather is a skin like ours, which if dry can crack. This is an essential step in the care of shoes and maintaining boots.

In the video I used the cream and Renovateur, Saphir. In my opinion, is the best moisturizer. Here, I show the Hydra leather, an option the national. Another excellent product for you to moisturize your shoe or your boot is the Huberd’s Shoe Oil. The product has almost 100 years of many tests and approval of several happy consumers.

It is already possible to notice that the shoe has the appearance softer after being hydrated:

3. Apply a cream to Polish and regain the color

Before you continue, wait a while for the leather to absorb the moisturizer and dry.

Use a cream Polish is not required but it is important especially for formal shoes. Choose a cream the color of your shoe to regain the color and hide some scratches to give that “face again”.

The cream is different from wax. The wax fills in the best out the creases and scratched, forming a layer on top of the leather. The cream is absorbed and nourishes the material better (also moisturizing). He disguises less scratchy, and it leaves the shoe with a shine, more matte. It is also possible to use the two, as we will do in this example (first the cream and then the wax).

You can use one or the other in step 3, but if you are going to use the wax will not let you apply the moisturizer. If you are using a good cream can even skip the step of moisturizing and go straight to the application after taking the dust. Those who only use the wax, and to realize that the shoe began to get parched, you should use a leather cleaner to get the build, pass the moisturizer, and only then apply the new layer of wax.

As the shoe is black, I used a cream black. Curl up your finger in an old shirt, picked up a little cream and step in the shoe making circular movements. You can use a brush, a sponge, a cotton, that is.

After you pass the cream in two shoes, I let it dry for two or three minutes and move a brush (preferably not the one that you use to take dust) to give the “heated” which makes the shoe more glossy.

The same can be done with a flannel, and if instead of the cream, you use the wax, the result will be more “bright”.

That’s it. If you want you can already stop here!

4. Step bonus: Give you that glow

Sometimes I like to go a bit further to let the shoe even more sleek. It doesn’t make much sense when I’m cleaning up a boot, but gives a degree on the shoes social.

To give that glare military just wait a minute or two, and spend a extra layer of wax in a way “special”. Now it has to be wax!

I do the following: Step the tip of the finger (curled on the t-shirt) in the wax, sauce this side of me with in the water (leave the water in the cap of the wax and soak the tip with only one drop even). Then espalho with a circular motion and I’m going to alternating the feet and by applying drops of water and more wax as I observe the result.

I make this glow “mirrored” only on the edge or in regions that do not deform while the floor, not to “crack” the layer of wax.

In the black shoe I use the wax black or neutral. Another interesting option is to use the wax navy blue on the shoe is black. It is strange to explain it that way, but on the night the dark blue is more black than the black; and the day the reflection of the sun causes a patina interesting in the shoe.

This is a more time-consuming process and can take several layers and sensitivity in the application of the wax and water until you reach a mirror effect.

I hope that this guide will be helpful for you to keep your shoe in excellent condition. Another tip that may help is that I have a video on Youtube where I do the step-by-step to clear a boot. The steps to take care of a boot is very similar!
